Brown Trout | Butternut Creek

I spent the morning at a very small section of Butternut Creek located on my commute to work. I caught a nice sized brown trout on my first cast from a small pool of slack water! The entire creek was only about eight feet wide, and I really didn’t expect too much. I hooked three trout and landed two of them with my net. The smallest of them shook my lure and got away. Another angler named Bill was fishing the stream and not having much luck. When I landed my first fish, he asked if I ate trout. I replied that I catch and release, and he asked if I minded if he took them home for dinner. I obliged, as it seemed like the appropriate thing to do, and one was hooked fairly deep anyway. We talked awhile and he shared some tips after I mentioned I was new to trout fishing. Much appreciated.
